Overview

CHP: A Great Energy Savings Solution for Ice Arenas and Aquatic Centers

The City of Belleville, Ontario, hosts three microturbines, which provide electrical power to the CAA Arena, gymnasium and Templeman Aquatic Centre.

The CHP units generate electricity and produce hot water from the waste heat from gas-powered microturbines that operate on-site.

The electricity generated from the microturbines is sold to the City for use at the Quinte Sports & Wellness Centre through a Power Purchase Agreement. The hot water produced by the units is used to heat the facility’s swimming pools and domestic hot water system.
