Offshore microgrid composed of ultra-low emissions 260kW CHP system running on liquid fuel paired with solar PV array.
Overview
Maine island microgrid turns to lowest emission baseload power option
This Maine island has always had to generate its own energy, having no subsea connection to the mainland’s power grid. Local authorities needed baseload energy that met EPA’s most stringent emissions requirments, so they turned to Vergent to provide an ultra-low emissions CHP system. The plant runs on diesel fuel, is paired with a solar PV array, and it recovers waste heat for use in adjacent buildings.
Due to the microturbines’ minimal need for maintenance, local personnel have been trained to service the plant.
