Ice Arena Saves Energy with CHP Retrofit
After receiving a joint investment from the federal and provincial governments to upgrade the Dryden Memorial Arena, The City of Dryden embarked on a major expansion which included the installation of a CHP system to help reduce annual energy costs.
The Dryden Memorial Arena houses two ice arenas, with Arena 1 opening in 1979. It includes an ice surface measuring 85′ x 200′ that seats 1000 people and has 8 dressing rooms. Arena 2 was first built in 1988. That ice surface measures 85′ x 180′ and the arena has provisional seating with 4 inter-locked dressing rooms.
In 2024, Vergent installed one 65kW Capstone Microturbine CHP system to replace aging mechanical equipment and help the city to save approximately $190,000 in annual energy costs, thanks in part to the high efficiency CHP system.
Dryden, Ontario, is home to two other CHP installations by Vergent, including Dryden High School and the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
