Whitby Civic Recreation Complex

An 130kW CHP system providing electricity and hot water to the community center.
Overview

Ontario Rec Center Saves Money with CHP

Vergent partnered with the local utility company to provide the Town of Whitby with a microturbine CHP system.

Two Capstone C65 Microturbines were installed at the Whitby Civic Recreation Complex (CRC) to supply electricity, hot water and heating for the facility. The municipally-operated complex is a 54,000-square-foot facility that includes a health club, fitness studio, and two pools.

The energy generated by the turbines is used to offset the electricity demand of the building, resulting in nearly $70,000 in annual savings.
